🇬🇧 Huge increase in Government fees - apply now if eligible!

The official visa fees will be increased - by a lot! The Government never says from when, to avoid people rushing with applications, but we strongly advise to submit as soon as possible! 


Health charge will change from £624 per year to £1,035 per year. Per person. For children and students - £776 per year, up from the current £470 per year. 


Visa application and Citizenship fees will be up by at least 20%. Current Spouse/Partner visa costs £1,548 from outside the UK or £1,048 inside the UK, so 20% will be significant. Although ‘at least’ could mean even more. Settlement (Indefinite Leave) is currently £2,404. All per person, including per child. Work and visit visas will be up by 15%. 


If you are eligible - apply now! 


If you are planning to apply for entry visa outside the UK, you can apply anytime, as long you can meet the requirements. If you are changing a category (switching) inside the UK, you can also do so anytime, you don't have to wait for the current visa to expire. 


If your next step is settlement (Indefinite Leave), you can apply when eligible, which is often sooner than your current visa expiry date, often by 3 - 4 months.  


If your next step is a Spouse/Partner visa extension, you may not need to wait for the last 28 days of you current visa. It would be a sensible approach, normally, but it’s not a rule. Depending on your timing and calculation for Settlement, it may be OK to apply sooner.

How long can a visitor stay in the UK? 6 months from each entry? In a year? In a calendar year?

Visitors can come to the UK for purposes of tourism, visiting friends, business visits and similar. Visitors can stay for maximum 6 months in each 12 months . Not 6 months from each entry to the UK. Even if your visitor visa is for 5 or 10 years you can still stay for maximum 180 days in each of those years. How to count ‘6 months in 12 months’? A 12 months period starts from ‘now’, date in question or date of entry etc and you need to count backwards (not a calendar year). If you stayed in the UK for the whole 6 months then you have to stay away for the whole 6 months. If you come and go several times during a year then the total must be 180 days cumulatively in the last 12 months. Visitor rules are the same for all. Visitor visa rules aren’t. #1 Most common - submitting “everything I have’.  Some payslips, a tax return, some savings plus a property deed for good measure. Surely, should work? It may sound logical to provide as much as possible, this is often a nightmare scenario for immigration lawyers and often a direct path to a visa refusal. Financial Requirement is strictly based on the ‘rules’: what income can be used, how various sources can be combined and what documents are needed.
